At LCC, our common life is bound together in the Word of God and prayer. Chapel at LCC is not just for a certain subset of the campus but is attended by all students, faculty, and staff. That makes for a formative environment in the chapel, classroom, and residence.

We follow Luther’s advice and hold regular Matins and Vespers services in which we regularly pray the entire psalter together over the course of the academic year. From ancient times the psalms have formed Christian communities and schools. After all, the psalms are the prayerbook of the Bible. Our Lord Jesus Christ learned the psalms by heart as a young boy and even prayed them as He died on the cross. Jesus quoted the psalms after meeting the disciples on the road to Emmaus and preached to them of the psalms’ fulfillment in His own death and resurrection (Luke 24:44).

Four days per week we pray Matins and Vespers and receive the Word of God faithfully preached. On Wednesday mornings we celebrate the Divine Service. On Sundays, students attend one of Casper’s two confessional Lutheran congregations alongside faculty, staff, and their families: Mt. Hope Lutheran or Trinity Lutheran. During the week, students also have access to spiritual care while they are away from home through the Dean of Chapel, who serves as chaplain to the students, and the other ordained faculty.

In this way the Word of God and historic Lutheran liturgy and hymnody shape our students piety through the best use of Lutheran Service Book, The Lutheran Hymnal, and the new hymnal companion, Te Laudamus.
